MAJOR ROAD WORKS ON THE NORTH EASTERN SIDE OF ANZAC HIGHWAY NEAR SOUTH ROAD INTERSECTION FROM 6PM FRIDAY 1 MAY TO 10PM SUNDAY 3 MAY

AdelaideConnect wish to advise the public that major road works will be taking place from 6pm Friday 1st May through to Sunday evening on 3rd May on the north-eastern side of the intersection. The timing of this work is weather dependent. If unfavourable weather conditions occur over the next week, this work may be re-scheduled to a following available weekend. Variable Message Signage (VMS) will be used to alert the local community and motorists to the date works will commence.

Type of Works

During this period the following activities will be undertaken:

  1. Profiling and asphalting to complete ANZAC Highway road works on the north eastern side between Home Ideas Centre and Waltham Street.

Profiling to prepare the road pavement for asphalt will take place from 6pm Friday 1st May through the evening and into Saturday. Once complete, asphalting will commence and continue on both days until work is finished on Sunday 3rd May. While works will occur on Friday night, no night works on Saturday or Sunday are envisaged.

Those living and working in close proximity to the work area can expect to experience some periodic disturbance while works are in progress.  The contractor is required to undertake these activities within Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) guidelines and will make every effort to minimise any noise and vibration impacts that may be associated with these works.

Traffic Restrictions

In preparation for the above works, the south bound exit ramp (i.e. that section of South Road between Herbert Road and the Home Ideas Centre) will be reduced to one lane from Monday 27th April to 6pm Friday 1st May.

From 6pm on Friday the 1st May:

  1. The south bound exit ramp will be CLOSED at ANZAC Highway. Local traffic wishing to exit off South Road to head towards the City and Ashford will be detoured back onto ANZAC Highway via Tyson Street and Farnham Road.
  2. ANZAC Highway will be reduced to one lane to the City and two lanes to Glenelg between the Emergency Vet and Farnham Road.

Access Arrangements

  1. No turns into Waltham Avenue or access to business car parks on ANZAC Highway (between Waltham Avenue and South Road) will be permitted from 6pm Friday 1st May through to late Sunday afternoon of the 3rd May.
  2. Tyson Street will be re-opened to left turns in only at South Road.
  3. The Home Ideas Centre and Rossdale Homes display will operate as normal on this weekend. Access will be provided via Tyson Street (off South Road) or if travelling in either direction on ANZAC Highway, traffic will be detoured into Farnham Road and Tyson Street via the break in the median on ANZAC Highway near Berkley Avenue.

Variable Message Signs (VMS) and other signage will be in place to alert motorists to the temporary traffic changes and access arrangements for businesses and local residents affected by the works. Traffic controllers will also be on site to assist motorists when required.

Emergency Services, the Passenger Transport Division and local councils have all been notified of these works.

We thank you for your patience and apologise if these works cause you any inconvenience or disturbance. Major road works will be completed by the end of June with the project on track to be fully completed before the end of 2009.
