TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS SATURDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER 08

Traffic restrictions will be in place on ANZAC Highway and South Road near the intersection on Saturday 13th September 2008 from 5.00am to 6.00pm (approx.) to enable the remaining 9 bridge beams to be installed on the northern side of the bridge deck.

Motorists are asked to take extra care while travelling through the intersection as these works are undertaken.

Traffic restrictions

  • On ANZAC Highway: Traffic will be restricted to one thru lane on ANZAC Highway heading east into the City. Current traffic arrangements i.e. two through lanes heading west towards Glenelg (between Selby Street and Waltham Street will still be in operation.
  • On South Road: Traffic will be restricted to one dedicated through lane in both directions and one ‘shared’ through and right turn lane in both directions (between Basnett Street and Eurilpa Avenue).

Variable Message Signage (VMS) will be in place to alert motorists to the temporary changes to traffic conditions and reduced speed limits will apply. Property access will be maintained and traffic controllers will be on site to assist where required.

As occurred when the first 11 bridge beams were installed on the southern half of the bridge deck the beams will be delivered via police escort travelling south on South Road from Kilkenny. The first beam is expected to reach the site by approximately 6.00am on Saturday 13th September 2008.

Depending on the conditions on the day, all beams should be installed and traffic is expected to be operating as normal on all approaches to the intersection by Saturday evening.

The widening of ANZAC Highway and associated works are expected to be completed in the near future with ANZAC Highway in its final alignment before the end of this year.
