IMPORTANT INFORMATION RE: TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS AT THE INTERSECTION ON 11th and 12th OCTOBER 2008

Please be advised that traffic restrictions will be in place on ANZAC Highway and South Road near the intersection on Saturday 11th October 2008 from 6.00am until works are completed on Sunday 12th October 2008 to enable the two halves of the bridge deck to be joined and a new water main to be installed across the bridge deck. Construction works will commence at 7.00am on Saturday and continue through the evening into Sunday until works are completed.

Traffic restrictions

• On ANZAC Highway: Traffic will be restricted to one through lane on ANZAC Highway heading east into the City from Selby Street across the South Road intersection where normal traffic conditions will return (opposite the Home Ideas Centre).

• On South Road: Two through lanes will be available to traffic travelling in both directions from Forest Street to Basnett Street where normal traffic conditions will return. At the ANZAC Highway intersection, the right lanes will operate as a ‘shared’ through and right turn lanes.

Lanes will be progressively opened as works are completed and it is safe to do so. Some traffic restrictions may be in place on South Road until late Sunday or until works completion.

25 kph speed limits will apply in this location for the entire duration of works.  Variable Message Signage (VMS) will be in place to alert motorists to the temporary changes to traffic conditions and reduced speed limits will apply.  Motorists are asked to take extra care while travelling through the intersection as these works are undertaken.

Property access will be maintained and traffic controllers will be on site to assist where required. 

What works are happening on the 11th and 12th of October?

With the bridge beam installation and bridge pour now complete, the above works will finish off the bridge deck construction activities. Construction activity will be focused on the north-west corner of ANZAC Highway and South Road.

Activities are being planned to minimise impacts on the local community and road users.  Every effort will be made to complete any required asphalt cutting and excavation works during the day. Some water main activities will be required during the evening, however these will be managed to avoid major noise disturbance to nearby residents.

We apologise for any inconvenience that these works cause. Work is on track to complete all ANZAC Highway works and have ANZAC Highway in its final alignment and full width before the end of this year.
