South Road Upgrade / ANZAC Highway Underpass

MAJOR ROAD WORKS ON SOUTH ROAD BETWEEN HALE STREET AND GLENGYLE TERRACE

AdelaideConnect wish to advise the public that major road works to join the southern end of South Road to the new underpass will take place from Friday 27 February to Monday 2 March 2009.

TYPE AND TIMES OF WORK

From 6pm Friday 27 February through to 6am Monday 2 March works will take place continuously on South Road between Hale Street and Glengyle Terrace.  

Profiling works will predominantly take place on Friday night, with asphalt works occurring on Saturday and Sunday and final line marking occurring on Sunday evening. Temporary lighting will be installed on South Road during all night works.

Residents living on or near South Road in the location of the works may experience some noise disturbance at times, while works are in progress. AdelaideConnect will manage these works to minimise the impacts on local residents as much as possible. 

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

While works are in progress, all traffic will be moved onto the eastern side of South Road and reduced to one lane in each direction between Orchard Avenue and Maude Street.

Glandore residents will be required to use alternative routes to gain access to South Road while works are in progress.

Traffic controllers will also be on site to assist motorists when required. A reduced speed limit of 25 kph will apply around the works area.

Buses on South Road will stop close to or adjacent to current bus stops when works are in progress.

Emergency Services and the Cities of West Torrens and Unley have been advised of these works and temporary changes to traffic arrangements.

Variable Messages Signage (VMS) and other signage will be in place on the south-western side of South Road advising of the temporary road closure and directing traffic from Glengyle Terrace Street towards ANZAC Highway

ACCESS RESTRICTIONS

  • Access to Hale Street will be LEFT IN AND LEFT OUT ONLY – as per the final access arrangements.
  • Forest Avenue, Black Forest  will be LEFT IN AND OUT ONLY
  • Glengyle Terrace will be CLOSED at the South Road end. No access will be provided onto South Road from Glengyle Terrace.  Residents living on Glengyle Terrace will be provided with LEFT IN access ONLY and signage will be in place advising of local traffic only access.
  • Businesses, and residents living on South Road between Maude Street and the tramline will have access to their properties maintained.
