MAJOR ROAD WORKS ON SOUTH ROAD BETWEEN
HALE STREET AND NORMAN TERRACE
AdelaideConnect wishes to advise the public that major road works on South Road will be taking place from Friday 27 March to Tuesday 31st March 2009 to complete the traffic alignment on South Road to allow traffic to use the underpass.
TYPE AND TIMES OF WORK
- From 5pm Friday 27 March through to 6am Monday 30th March works will take place continuously on South Road between Hale Street and Norman Terrace.
Profiling works will predominantly take place on Friday night, with asphalt works occurring on Saturday and Sunday during day and evening times. Temporary lighting will be installed on South Road during all night works.
- South Road will operate as normal during peak hours on Monday 30th March however further asphalt works will be undertaken from 6pm until Tuesday 31st March at 6am to complete the work.
- Final line marking will take place on Tuesday evening of 31st March 2009.
Residents living on or near South Road in the location of the works may experience some noise disturbance at times, while works are in progress. The contractor, AdelaideConnect will manage these works to minimise the impacts on local residents as much as possible.
TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
South Road
Traffic will be switched from the existing South Road into the underpass from 6pm (approx.) on Friday 27th March. Police will be on site to assist with the traffic switch over.
- Northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane from 5pm on Friday from Forest Avenue, Black Forest into the underpass
- Southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane from 6pm Friday, from the underpass to Forest Street, Glandore.
ANZAC Highway
- City bound lanes are unaffected, with three lanes operational.
- Glenelg bound lanes will be reduced to two lanes.
The Police and traffic controllers will also be on site to assist motorists when required. A reduced speed limit of 25 kph will apply around the works area.
Bus Stops
- Bus stop 5 (north of Tyson Street Ashford) will be temporarily closed during works.
- Bus stop 7 (just north of the tramline) will be temporarily located to the south side of the tramline during works.
- A new bus stop 6, on the western side of South Road near the feature wall will be open.
Tram Crossing
The automatic tram boom gates will not be available for south bound traffic while these works are in progress. Tram guards and traffic controllers will control traffic movements to ensure that the tram crossing operates safely.
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes to avoid delays while works are in progress.
ACCESS RESTRICTIONS
South Road
- Orchard Street and Hale Street will be CLOSED to South Road. Traffic access will be provided to businesses on the south east corner of ANZAC Highway and South Road and to local residents.
- Residents on South Road between Orchard Street and Eurilpa Avenue will also be provided with access to and from their properties.
- Eurilpa Avenue will be CLOSED at the South Road end.
- Remaining residents of Everard Park, including those living on Eurilpa Avenue will be required to use alternative routes while works are in progress. Entry to and from Anzac Highway will be via Berkley Avenue and Hillsley Avenue. This will be the main access point between South Road and ANZAC Highway.
- Alternatively, traffic approaching from the south can use Cross Road and East Avenue where the tramline can be crossed at Victoria Street and entrance into Everard Park in all directions is possible.
- Forest Avenue, Black Forest will be LEFT IN AND OUT ONLY
Variable Messages Signage (VMS) and other signage will be in place on the south eastern side of ANZAC Highway and South Road advising of the access points for local businesses and residents.
Emergency Services, the Passenger Transport Board and the Cities of West Torrens and Unley have been advised of these works and temporary changes to traffic arrangements.
This is the last major traffic disruption associated with the underpass opening and we thank residents for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience or temporary disturbance these works may cause.
